There were more than a few tired faces (including mine!) at the start of the week, but once we got back into the swing of things this week turned out great.
In maths we have been reviewing rounding whole numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Homework this week is more practice with this and is due, as usual, on Tuesday (13th January).
I had a wonderful time back in Canada seeing family and friends. I even brought back a surprise for the class, letters from a Grade 4 class in Canada (same age as our Year 5)! We read these letters and have been writing letters back to them. As of today, most are finished writing their good copies. All the hard work and effort has paid off though because the letters sound fantastic. Mrs Adair spotted the good work being done by our class and as a result we shared the Class of the Week award for this week!
Our history/geography topic to start this term is all about the Maya people of Central America. We have only just begun to look at this topic but the children seem eager to find out more about this ancient civilization.
Reading record books have been collected and most seem to be reading regularly. Be sure to keep this up. If you haven't been reading regularly, consider yourself told!
Spring Term spellings were handed out earlier this week and should be kept in your reading folder. There are some tough words so studying is a must.
