To order a set of fractions, you first need to change the fractions so that they all have a common denominator (same bottom number). This video shows you how to do it.
A good explanation of what is happening to the number when we multiply or divide by 10, 100 or 1000. 1/3 divided by 2. Simply, you multiply the denominator of the fraction by the whole number and keep the numerator the same, so the answer is 1/6. This song shows this process using pictures. Find a common factor for the numerator and denominator and divide each part of the fraction by this common factor. Remember - whatever you do to one number, you must do to the other. When there are no more common factors, you're done. This video explains all you need to know about multiplying pairs of fractions. Remember - you must simplify your answer (see separate video for how to do this) When you are adding or subtracting fractions with the same denominator (bottom number) you add/ subtract the numerators and keep the denominator the same. Examples: 1/5 + 2/5 = 3/5 or 6/8 - 3/8 = 3/8 It gets a bit more tricky when the denominators aren't the same. The video below explains how to find answers to calculating the answer to this type of question. |
