24th - 28th November

This week was jam-packed with all sorts of activities!
In Maths we continued to look at fractions and most of us now know how to find equivalent fraction, fractions of a shape and fractions of a number. I introduced the children to a vintage Mr. Sutherland concept that I used back in one of my teaching practicum placements: The Hurricane Method. Try explaining this method to someone at home kids!
One of the highlights from our English lessons was making our own versions of Frobscottle (the make-believe drink from the BFG). The children made instructions to make their drink, then had to read them aloud to one of their peers so that they could make it! This highlighted how important it is to include detail and be specific when writing instructions.

Measuring the correct amounts proved to be tricky, but everyone did quite well.

Some of the drinks were enjoyed, some weren't.

We have started to make our seasonal calendars. Children were asked to bring in season-specific clothes on Friday. Most did, but if they didn't they need to bring in a few things on Monday. Here's a reminder of the sort of clothes required:

Our class displays have been updated also!

Our finished constellations on display. I wasn't too sure about this artistic method, but I think in the end everyone did a 'starrific' job!

Next week sees us continue our novel study on The BFG, take a look at time and hopefully complete our calendars.
Homework this week is a mix of finding equivalent fractions and recognising adjectives. This is due on Tuesday as usual. Also remember to study your spellings for the test on Tuesday!
