Another jam-packed week has come and gone. This week in maths we reviewed working with fractions. The children revised how to find fractions of numbers (using the Hurricane Method) and fractions of shapes. Equivalent fractions, which is always a tough topic to teach and learn, was also covered again.

In English we have been looking at adding detail yet again. We also looked at writing recounts and using expression when speaking to an audience. The children did some great recounts of Lucy Bronze's game-winning goal for England against Norway this past week. The children wrote detailed recounts then tried to speak using emphasis, like a real sports announcer. Some did exceptionally well and may have a broadcasting career in the future, while others need to work more on voice fluctuations and dramatic pauses. I will try to post up some of the audio clips next week, so stay tuned!
Our topic of the Ancient Greeks is nearing an end. We held an adapted version of our own Ancient Olympics that the children enjoyed. Luckily for us we had dry weather for the afternoon so we took full advantage. The event winners even received 'olive branch wreaths' and had their picture taken to simulate having a statue made in their honour!
The DOJO winner for this week was a multi-way draw again with Cameron, Charlie, Chloe W, Destiny, Jamielee, John-James, Josh and Melody all sharing the spoils. (+2 HPs each)
Our Top Spellers board was over-run with 'perfects' this week. Seventeen people aced their spelling test, the most we have ever had! Congratulations to: Jaimee, Lucas, Sam, Chloe D, Harley, Erin, Tannon, Ryan, Jamie K, Charlie, Alfie, Chloe M, Niamh, Katie, Cameron, Kinisha and Melody! (+2 HPs each)

ghost - Casper is the friendly ghost.
heat - The heat coming from the oven was immense.
desperate - Jacob was desperate for the toilet.
effort - Always give 100% effort.
focus - Block out distractions and focus on your work.
determination - Keep at it, show some determination!
proud - Laura was proud of herself for finally swimming 25m.
horse - Learning to ride a horse is quite a skill.
around - The shop is down the lane and around the corner.
city - The city lights lit up the beautiful night sky.
Homework this week is a chance to design a medal for the Ancient Olympics. They didn't get medals, but if they did, what would they look like? Be sure to put plenty of thought and effort into your design. We had several children receive HPs last week because of their well-done homework. Will your homework be worthy this week?
Orchestra members need to bring their instruments on Monday for their performance. Good luck to all those taking part. Everyone needs to be bringing in their reading folder and PE kit every day.
