This week in maths, we looked at using the mental and formal methods for both addition and subtraction. Most children did great, but we'll need to work on mental subtraction more though. Furthermore, our Friday arithmetic scores are starting to improve, which is good to see!
In English, children worked with instructions, along with recognising similes and alliteration. Their extended writing task had them write a setting description from a picture I gave them. I was looking for loads of great adjectives being used. Homework this week is another chance to show me how well you can write with description!
Our topic of the Ancient Greeks is moving along nicely. Children used the iPads to research prominent clothing, education, food and buildings. Their interest level has been great so far! We also looked at the similarities and differences between the city states of Athens and Sparta.
Our guided reading program is now in full swing. Children need to read at least three times each week. They need to keep their yellow log books updated and remember to bring their reading folder in each and every school day!
Next week we'll be looking at some more Ancient Greek myths and legends. We'll also revisit using mental methods to add and subtract. Children will start to design their own clay pot and we'll make some mosaic tessellations!
Remember that after-school clubs start next week (Homework and Gardening Clubs) and that the Book Fair is on in the KS1 hall from 3:20pm-4:00pm each day. We are also having a non-uniform day in support of charity on next Friday. Children are encouraged to wear pink/green and bring in a small donation.
The Good Work Award this week went to Charlotte for her great work in maths, while the Good Behaviour Award went to Daniel for continuing to try to use the correct grip when writing. +5 HPs each!
Our Class DOJO winner this week was Charlotte! You've had a good week, haven't you?! Good job! +5HPs!
Spellings will be sorted out next week, so continue to study over the weekend!
Remember: read and record in your yellow log book, homework is due in on Tuesday, you need your PE kit everyday, practise your spellings and times tables, and above all, have a great weekend!
