In English, children finally got the chance to rewrite the opening of Funny Bones. Children were encouraged to use the various skills we learned last week: fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and correctly punctuated speech. Lastly, children learned the components of sentences. Terms like noun, adjective, verb, adverb, coordinating conjunction, speech and reporting clause were reviewed, while the terms pronoun and possessive pronoun were introduced. In what was a tough lesson, the children did really well. It's hard to focus on so many things at once, but most got the idea.
In topic, we've moved on to our magnetism unit. Children completed their pre-learning assessment and wrote out their enquiry questions before diving right into the unit. So far we've covered how magnets can act at a distance by making magnetic mazes! We also learned some of the terms associated with magnetism (attract, repel, opposite, same, north, south, poles and atoms). Next week we'll look at what things are magnetic and just what makes them magnetic.
Top Spellers this week (Spring Term Review) were:

Spellings for next week: Autumn AND Spring Term Review.
Any words/spelling rules we've learned since the start of the year are fair game for this review. Study the tricky words!
Homework this week is a bit of fun for the school's 50th birthday. Your challenge is to make number equations that equal 50! Don't just use simple equations, challenge yourself! Use a variety of operations, use decimal numbers, use negative numbers! Surprise me! HPs are up for grabs to those who come up with a good variety of challenging equations.
The Good Behaviour Award this week went to Joel for showing ownership of his learning.
The Good Work Award this week went to Corey for his consistent spellings results.
The Class DOJO Winner this week was Amy.
Well done to you all! +5 HPs each.
The class did great on Friday during their swimming lessons. We'll continue this after the Easter break for those who need the most practise.
Remember to read and record in your reading record, study your times tables, study your spellings and complete your homework over the weekend.
Have a great weekend everyone!
