This week in maths, we looked at calculations involving decimal numbers again. Children ordered and rounded decimal numbers, along with practising fraction/decimal conversions and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 again. Homework this week is further practise with these skills.
Some online games that we used in class can be found here:

In English, we reviewed the parts of a sentence again. We looked mainly at nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, pronouns, possessive pronouns, coordinating conjunctions, speech, reporting clauses and fronted adverbials. After this review, we moved onto our work on Boudicca, which tied into our Romans unit nicely. Children read the story, then produced point form notes. From these point for notes, they narrowed the story down to five main events. These five main events were then turned into Stop/Go plays by each group. Some children even made props to bring in and use. These plays turned out great! I took pictures of each 'frame' so children could look back and assess if it looked the way they wanted it to.
In topic, children ordered a timeline that included some of the major dates of Roman events. Next week, we'll start with our group research projects, which will eventually result in each group making their own PowerPoint presentation about their particular focus! Remember to bring in any Roman information books, as these will help you to collect your facts.
Spellings for next week (Latin prefixes):
alti - to do with height
pri - first
magni - large, grand
sub - under, below
Children were given these four Latin prefixes and told to find words that start with these prefixes, not just the same few letters. I will pick some random words starting with these prefixes for your spellings and these will be tested next week. This format will continue for a few weeks, as there are lots of Latin prefixes we still use today!
The Good Work Award this week went to Owen A for the effort he went to preparing for his group's Stop/Go play.
The Good Behaviour Award this week went to Owen W for helping out others.
The Class DOJO Winner will be carried over due to a draw.
Well done to you both. +5 HPs each!
The class also won Class of the Week this week for their efforts in English and good behaviour while I was out at a school football tournament. Great job everyone! Lets keep the good work going!
Reminder: Wednesdays we have SAFC in for PE. Fridays we have swimming for those selected and PE for those not going swimming. Also, after school clubs start up again next week (Film Club, Multi Skills Club)
The weather was toasty this week, but don't be fooled. Bring a jacket just in case! It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
Be sure to study your spellings and times tables while also making sure to read and record in your reading record at least three times per week.
Have a great weekend everyone. Get outside and enjoy the nice weather!
