This week in maths we looked at using measurements. Children know the proper terms of distance, mass and capacity and the metric units associated with each. We've looked at estimating measurements, but further practise with this will be needed. We also worked with converting measurements. Remember to study your times tables! Some children have learned all of their times tables so they'll now be tested on a mixture, eventually moving on to multiplication and division tables. As requested, here's the game: Stop The Clock for further practise with time.
In English, children wrote their own explanation text about how magnets work. They used the key vocabulary within their writing well! We also looked at writing letters. The children have written letters to Pen Pals in Canada and I'll try to send these in the post next week! I enjoy being able to provide the class with this opportunity as I feel it's a great way to allow the children to write with a purpose.
In topic, we've covered what materials are magnetic and we've also learned how magnets work, being sure to use the correct vocabulary. We also discussed how the Earth is essentially one big magnet! Cool stuff! Check out this tough game involving magnets. Be sure to finish your homework first though!
