In Maths, we've looked at place value, partitioning numbers, finding 10, 100 and 1000 more/less than a number and compared/ordered numbers over 1000. We even started to practise using different arithmetic strategies. Next week we'll mainly be looking at using mental and formal methods for both addition and subtraction. Remember to keep practising those times tables though.
In English, we started our novel study: The Witches by Roald Dahl! We've read through the first few chapters so far. Children have written a short biography on Roald Dahl and we've looked at recognising proper nouns and using capital letters. Next week we'll try to read through the rest of the book and look at how to write instructions.
Our Ancient Greece topic has continued nicely. Children have completed a timeline and a map showing the different climates. We had our first session with Jason from the Stadium of Light Foundation which the children enjoyed massively, and we also started our French unit by learning the colours in French.
The Good Behaviour Award this week went to James B, while the Good Achievement Award went to Skye. Well done to you both and keep up the good work! +5 HPs each.
Our Class DOJO winner this week was Daniel! Way to go Daniel! +5HPs.
I've handed out a few simple spellings that will be tested on Tuesday next week. These are common homophones that the children need to know the difference between.
Week 1 Spellings (common homophones)
night - It was a dark and stormy night.
knight - The knight was brave in battle.
flour - We need four cups of flour for the recipe.
flower - Check out how red that flower is.
led - I led the class down the corridor and into the hall.
lead - That lead pipe is leaking in the kitchen.
blew - She made a loud sound as she blew her nose.
blue - The sky is a beautiful blue colour.
brake - Make sure to press the brake firmly to stop.
break - The summer break was great.
Remember to read and record the date and pages read in your yellow log book. Study those times tables and spellings and remember to bring your reading folder and PE kit in! Letters about after school clubs and the school census were handed out on Friday also. Make sure these are responded to as soon as possible to avoid disappointments.
Have a great weekend everyone!
