In maths, we looked at place values. All children know the place values of units, tens, hundreds, thousands and some are working with ten thousands. We looked at partitioning and adding/subtracting by 10, 100 and 1000 using place value to help. Homework this week is further practise with place values and is due in by Tuesday (Monday is fine too)!
In English, we looked at the difference between regular nouns and proper nouns. We also started our novel study for this half-term: The Witches by Roald Dahl. Children wrote a biography on Roald Dahl and also recalled details from the first few chapters of the story. If you happen to have the book at home, please don't read ahead. Keep it a surprise!
In topic, we continued our unit on the Ancient Greeks. We looked at climate zones, and specifically what climate zone Greece is in and how this impacts the weather they receive.
We have continued with our handwriting practise and also reviewed how to stay safe online. In PE, children were challenged to 'cross the lava' as a team, with each pass increasing in difficulty.
Children have been given their reading folders with their reading book and reading record. They are encouraged to read as often as possible at home, preferably with an adult. They have been shown how to keep track of the date and pages read within their reading record. They need to take their reading folder home every night and bring it back in every morning.
The Good Work Award this week went to Amy for the great writing she did about her goals for Y4.
The Good Behaviour Award this week went to Heather for helping others without being asked.
The Class DOJO Winner this week was Owen W.
Well done to you all! +5 HPs each!
The class also won the Golden Ladle Award for their excellent behaviour in the dinner hall. This was a great surprise and I hope it is not the last!
Have a great weekend everyone!
