Last week we wrote letters to President Obama to try and persuade him to ban guns in America. Our fabulous letters are going in the post tomorrow and we are keeping everything crossed for a reply!

Today we have been answering questions on a video to help us practise our inference and deduction skills. We've done this a lot throughout the year and we've really improved our skills. The video we looked at today allowed us to think about issues surrounding differences and equality. We created a commentary of the video giving the answers to our questions then we explained in our own words what we thought the overall message was. The end result is amazing and we hope the whole world agrees! That's the question we're going to be exploring next week so to get you warmed up, comment below with a word or phrase that sums up what love is to you. You can also bring a photograph into school on Monday that shows what love is, you don't have to do this but it would be good if you can. There are no right or wrong answers to this question, so say what you feel. I'll start. Love is the moments where time stands still. Or, this picture shows what love is to me. So come on.
Impress me. What is love? Yesterday we began learning about gun crime in America. We started by watching the 'Demand A Plan' campaign video then we researched some of the places named in the video. We were shocked at what we found out about Newtown, Virginia Tech and Aurora so we decided that we want to try and campaign for a gun ban in America ourselves! Today we worked together to create an emotive script for our own version of the video. We made sure it was full of rhetorical questions and powerful short statements that could grab the audience's attention and get our point clearly across! Watch the amazing finished result and support us on our crusade to ban guns in America. Over our next few English lessons, we will be learning the skills we need to write an effective letter of persuasion. We will them use these skills to write letters to President Obama to try and convince him to ban guns altogether in America. We will be posting them to Washington and will keep everything crossed for a reply!
It's finally time for us to start my favourite module! Arguments...starting with persuasion. Who will be our audience for our writing over the next few weeks? The whole world as we will be blogging most of it, including the letters we will be writing to one of the most powerful people on the planet! President Obama, expect some mail from us very soon. We will be sending you some very powerful letters dealing with a very serious issue. We might just be from a small town in England, but we are ready to try and change the world for the better! Have a look at these pictures to get you warmed up. I can't wait to get started tomorrow. Let's try to change the world! We made our own tutorials on how to find Area and Volume of 2D and 3D shapes. |
